DepEd’s inventor-principal gets recognition

GENERAL SANTOS CITY (30 October 2015) – Department of Education’s (DepEd) inventor-principal William Moraca has been recognized by the City Council. Moraca’s recognition came after he was presented with the Princess Maha Chakri Award. The international award is given to only 10 school heads in the South East Asia region. The list of awardees was announced last October 2 in Bangkok, Thailand during the 60th birthday of Her Royal Highness Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. Moraca is the head teacher of Datal Salvan Elementary School. He gained popularity after inventing the lighting system through solar panel and potable water system that pumps water from a nearby spring by magnetic force. Further, he was the country’s representative to the auspicious awarding ceremony after besting the 16 regions of the Philippines. Also, he was one of the representatives of the 11 countries in Asia which participated in the event. “It’s an honor for us, Generals, that a representative of the country, galing po dito sa General Santos City,” said Gildo Mosqueda, DepEd School’s Division Superintendent. “Mr. Moraca is an inventor. He was able to produce power para magamit yung computers. Ang mga bata nagkaroon ng chance and opportunity to have hands on,” he added. Consequently, not only the school benefited from the invention. Even the household in the neighboring school made use of his inventions. The award is given to school heads for their valuable contribution to education and development and other innovation. On his part, Moraca was elated for the recognition he has received from the City Council after joining the awarding ceremony. He also expressed gratitude to the DepEd officials who supported him and believed in his capacity as part of the work force. “Di nako ma express ang akong kalipay hangtod karon. Sa tibuok Pilipinas, ako ang nag qualify ato. Wala ko nagdahum nga ang akong gamay nga gihimo sa bukid na recognize,” Moraca stated. He divulged of his plan for another innovation and project for Datal Salvan and for the community. “Ga isip kog new project nga ma recycle ang mga basura tanan nga ma turn into uling para dili me magputol ug kahoy.
